To kick-off the Black Heritage Month celebrations, Roybal Learning Center's student body welcomed performances from Omo Aché. The name Omo Aché means "blessed children" in Yoruba. Omo Aché performances included the representation of Cuba's three most influential African cultures: the Yoruba (from Nigeria); the Arará (from present day Benin and Togo); the Congo (from Bantu speaking tribes of present day Angola region) and Franco-Haitian (also Bantu speaking Angola region via Haiti). Juan Carlos, from Omo Aché, welcomed Roybal Learning Center's student body to participate in learning the steps to a performance, seen in the picture above.

It is with great sorrow that we inform our school community of the death of our boy’s basketball coach, Coach Danny O’Fallon. Coach O’Fallon was an inspiration to our basketball team and positively impacted his team, our sports program and school community. Crisis counselors will be available to speak with students when we return to school on Monday and for the remainder of the week in our Library. Our thoughts are with the family of Coach O’Fallon and his basketball team.

Here at Roybal, we have began to mobilize our leadership team to improve the environmental health and ecological sustainability of our school. We firmly believe that it is essential to protect our health and to reduce the environmental footprint of our school! Our first step is to begin recycling all our plastic usage! Continue to reduce, re-use, and re-cycle! By reducing, reusing, and recycling we can all help to cut down on the amount of waste we throw away. Don't trash our future and continue to support Roybal's effort to be a greener Roybal.

We opened up our school year with Club Rush 2019! Students need to find spaces outside of the classroom where they feel supported, loved, and appreciated for their existence and this is what students saw today—countless spaces where they can be themselves and learn about themselves and others! We saw clubs ranging from the Black Student Union to Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan to LGBT Alliance! There is a place for everyone at Roybal. We are Titan Strong!
We opened up our school year with an assembly recognizing some of the teachers and students that have contributed to making Roybal the top school in the Belmont Zone of Choice. Also, thank you to our entire staff for their continued hard work! Your efforts are appreciated! We are Roybal Learning Center! We are Titan Strong!
